We had brunch today and overall the food is good but not great. My chicken & waffles were bland and lukewarm when brought out. The eggs benedict were decent with the shrimp and grits being the best meal. It’s good portions for the money but just didn’t like it enough to go back. The service and atmosphere was pleaseant. I see from reviews the chicken and waffles are a big Sunday brunch hit but for me was very bland tasting.
I went for dinner on a Saturday night with my friend. Our reservation was for 6:30, it was a little busy when we got there but not too bad.
I got the shrimp and grits and she got the Red Snapper. The shrimp and grits were very good, the red snapper on the hand wasn't the best. It didn't have much flavor and she said that she would order the shrimp and grits next time.
For drinks I got an ol smoky which was very good and an orange spritz which was borderline gross. The orange was super overpowering to the point that it tasted like cough syrup. My friend got sangria, it was okay not sweet at all though.
For dessert we got pumpkin bread pudding which we were told by the waiter that it was the best dessert on the menu and was a seasonal item. It was good but nothing special.
Our main issue was that the service was extremely slow. Our waiter was nice but his visits to the table were far between. The food came out relatively fast but when we went to order dessert we were told that it was a platter and not a menu. It took probably about 10 minutes for our waiter to bring out the selection. After we ordered, it took about 30 minutes to get our dessert. When it finally came, we didn't have any silverware and were told that they would grab some for us. We waited for at least 10 minutes and no one came (which sucked having the dessert in front of us and not being able to eat it). Eventually I had to go inside and ask at the bar for forks. Our waiter came to check on us around 10 minutes after that. I'm hoping that this was just an unlucky experience, and the service is not always like this. We both would love to go back and try some of the other items on the menu, but the service is definitely a turn off.
Service was TERRIBLE. We sat with no water or greeting from anyone for approximately 10 minutes. We asked a waiter (who was filling water glasses at a table that no one was sitting at) if someone was working this area. He in turn asked us "no one has been by" we stated no he poured us some water and took our drink orders. About 5 minutes later the waitress came by and stated I'm sorry no one told me I had a table (this particular waitress actually looked us in the eye when we were sitting there looking around with the perplexed look of did we turn invisible when we sat down look) She said I put your drink orders in (the on her coworker took) do you need more time to decide on your meal? Of course we did not we just needed to regroup from being invisible. We placed our order and the food took a long time to come out. Thankfully the food was hot and delicious. The service was the worst I've experienced I really don't want to think it was because of something physical. She had no personality when she rarely stopped by our table it felt as though we were an inconvenience. Mind you the restaurant was NOT busy. I would like to go back because the food was amazing however I probably will not because of the service.
We enjoyed our dining experience.
We started with the crab and cheese dip. It was good but heavy and filled us up a little too much.
Chilean sea bass: this is their signature dish according to our server. It was perfectly cooked but the soy ginger glaze was way too salty. I’m surprised the chef approved it to be served.
Fish and chips: also perfectly cooked. Very crispy and well seasoned. It comes with steak fries which were too thick and mealy. Had we paid closer attention to the menu, we would’ve requested regular thin fries (the ones that come with the kids menu because those were amazing).
BBLT salad: I liked the fried Brussels sprouts the best. The dressing was surprisingly spicy and ruined the salad for me. My husband liked it though. Would swap for a different dressing next time or try a different salad.
Kids chicken tenders and fries: the “tenders” were two thin chicken breasts. Very crispy and hot and well seasoned. The fries were the battered kind and so crispy and good. For $6.95, it also came with a drink and ice cream for dessert.
Our server was great; very knowledgeable about the menu and attentive without being intrusive.
The restaurant is perfect for dining as well as a separate room inside for private events. The patio is a breath of fresh air plus fun and inviting for dining or Happy Hour! Highly recommend the Shrimp and Grits!
